Janesville, Wisconsin - April 6, 2026. The School District of Janesville is proud to announce that it has two 2026 Teacher Fellow award recipients and one Principal Leader recently recognized by the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation. The Herb Kohl Educational Foundation awards are among the most prestigious in the state and involve a rigorous selection process that evaluates leadership, teaching effectiveness, and the ability to inspire a love of learning.
From the 1,200 nominations received, 100 teachers were selected to receive Teacher Fellows awards of $6,000 in honor of their ability to inspire a love of learning, motivate students, and lead both inside and outside the classroom. Erin Jensen from Rock University High School and Coleen Shaw from Rock River Charter School were recognized as Teacher Fellows.
15 principals were also honored with Principal Leader awards of $6,000 for their efforts in setting high standards for instruction, achievement, and character while fostering a positive, impactful school environment. Ms. Sally Pope, Principal of Monroe Elementary School, was recognized as a Principal Leader.
“The Kohl Foundation awards are notoriously competitive, drawing applications from some of the most talented educators across the state. Having three of our own recognized in a single year is a powerful testament to the caliber of professionals serving our community, says Superintendent Mark Holzman.
These awards aren't just about accolades; they reflect the tangible impact being made in our classrooms every day. Their work is directly contributing to the improved results we see in our district and, more importantly, to the bright futures of the children they inspire. We are profoundly grateful for their leadership, their passion, and their commitment to excellence."
Each recipient’s school will also receive a matching grant of $6,000 to further support student learning and school initiatives.
